Mykhaylo Mudryk, the shining star as we look at the top 10 most expensive transfers in football in January 2023 transfer window.

This January 2023 has been an interesting month with some clubs signing many players, while most others being happy with the teams they already have. We also saw Cristiano Ronaldo signing his mega contract with the Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr among a few other big names moving clubs like Joao Felix, Leandro Trossard, Cody Gapko and many more.

Chelsea FC has had an outrageous January spending which has dwarfed that of every team in Europe’s three top leagues combined, as their £159million winter spending is £100m more than Serie A, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga put together. So, what are the Top 10 most expensive football transfers from January 2023 window? Well, let’s find out in this article.

#1: Mykhaylo Mudryk: Shakhtar Donetsk to Chelsea – £62m + £26.5 add-ons

Mykhaylo Mudryk is a 22-year-old Ukrainian footballer who plays as a Winger. He has joined Chelsea FC from Shakhtar Donetsk this January. He was being linked to Arsenal with multiple reports claiming that he only wanted to join Arsenal. However, Chelsea were able to hijack his move last minute and he has signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract with an option for another year. This would earn him £97000 per week with stability for the future.

#2: Cody Gakpo: PSV to Liverpool – £37.2m

Cody Gapko is a 23-year-old Dutch footballer who plays as a forward. He has joined Liverpool from PSV this January. Liverpool didn’t wait for the window to open before wrapping up a deal to sign Gakpo; thus beating the likes of Manchester United after he performed brilliantly at the World Cup. He has signed a 6-year contract which would see him earning £120000 per week.

#3: Benoit Badiashile: Monaco to Chelsea – £34m

Benoit Badiashile is a 22-year-old French footballer who plays as a centre-back. He has joined Chelsea FC from Monaco this January. Badiashile has committed to seven-and-a-half years at Stamford Bridge, which takes him to 2030 earning him £90000 per week. It seems that Chelsea and Todd Boehly are implementing a new policy of more extended contracts, which protects their assets but also allows them to spread amortisation more thinly to keep the FFP police happy.

4) Noni Madueke: PSV Eindhoven to Chelsea – £30.7m

Noni Madueke is a 20-year-old English footballer who plays as a winger / attacking midfielder. He has joined Chelsea FC from PSV this January. Chelsea have not stopped spending this January, and have signed the England Under-21 winger for quite a few pounds. It’s a seven-and-a-half-year contract for reasons of FFP, obviously.

#5: Georginio Rutter: Hoffenheim to Leeds – £24.8m

Georginio Rutter is a 20-year-old French footballer who plays as a Forward. He has joined Leeds United from 1899 Hoffenheim this January window. This would probably be a club record fee for Leeds United, whose fans will be hoping that he is as good as the club has paid for him. With 11 goals in 61 games of his career, Leeds will be hoping he adapts to the Premier League better than he did in the Bundesliga.

#6: Leandro Trossard: Brighton to Arsenal – £21m

Leandro Trossard is a 28-year-old Belgian footballer who plays as a winger. Trossard has joined Arsenal FC from Brighton this January window. He has been playing exceptionally well, and had made it public that he thought he was too good for Brighton. He will be a fine signing for Arsenal (after they missed out on Mudyrk) and Arsenal are now getting a Premier League-experienced attacker who can play in a variety of positions.

#7: Dango Ouattara: Lorient to Bournemouth – £20m

Dango Ouattara is a 20-year-old Burkinabè footballer who plays as a forward. He has joined AFC Bournemouth from Lorient this January window. He is the first signing at the club under the new owner Bill Foley. This Burkina Faso player has signed a five-and-a-half-year year contract after bagging six goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances this season.

#8: Andrey Santos: Vasco Da Gama to Chelsea – £18m

Andrey Santos is an 21-year-old Brazilian footballer who plays as a central midfielder. Santos has joined Chelsea FC from Vasco da Gama this January. He is a box-to-box midfielder, and has helped Vasco earn promotion from the Brazilian second division last season with 8 goals in 33 appearances and has also represented the Brazil Under-20 team. He has signed a 5.5 year deal with Chelsea, and will most likely be going out on loan before he makes his Chelsea appearance.

#9: Danilo: Palmeiras to Nottingham Forest – £17.8m

Danilo is an 18-year-old Brazilian footballer who plays as a midfielder. Danilo has joined Nottingham Forest from Palmeiras this January. He has been long linked with Arsenal, and surprisingly it is Nottingham Forest who have emerged with the signature of the 21-year-old Brazilian player. He has signed a 6.5 year contract with the club, and will be an exciting talent to watch in the premier league.

#10: Gerson: Marseille to Flamengo – £17.6m

Gerson Santos da Silva is a 25-year-old Brazilian footballer who plays as a midfielder. Greson has joined Flamengo from Marseille this January. He has returned to Flamengo after leaving them for Marseille in 2021. He played 48 games for Marseille last season, but has featured less frequently this term, prompting a deal that has seen him head back to his old club.
